Guy Everett Elder III was born 25 Mar 1942 in Denver Colorado to Helen Gertrude Broyles and Guy Everett Elder Jr. and passed away 11 Mar 2020. Guy was the fourth of five children raised by his father and stepmother Alice Mae Paulsen. The family moved to Akron, Washington County, Colorado in 1957 where Guy graduated from Akron High School in 1961.
He served in the US Navy from 1961 to 1965. He was first stationed in Reykjavik, Iceland and then aboard the USS Gainard (DD 706), home port, Newport, Rhode Island. While in Newport he met Nancy Holland who was a student nurse in New Bedford, Massachusetts. They were married 1 Jul 1967 at the First Baptist Church in Pocasset, Massachusetts.
They moved back to Akron Colorado in 1968 then to Greeley Colorado in 1969 where Guy went to work for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph.
Guy retired from Qwest Communications* in 2005 after 35 years with the telephone company. His pride is evidenced in his collection of historic telephone related equipment which has been donated in his name to the telecommunications museums in Denver, CO and Seattle, WA.
As the father of three sons, Guy was very active in Cub Scouts, serving as Cubmaster for Pack 247 and director of Cub Scout Day Camp (Akela Days) receiving the Bronze Pelican Award for his contribution to youth.
Guy and Nancy began traveling after the boys graduated from high school, road tripping from coast to coast and visiting friends and family across the country.
He is survived by his wife Nancy; their 3 sons: Guy IV (Karen) of Seattle, WA; Mike (Sherri) of Greeley, CO; and David (Larry Washington) of Tucson, AZ; 6 grandchildren: Roxane and Guy V of Seattle, WA; Tristin and Tanner of Greeley, CO; and Nick and Lily of CA; 2 sisters Barbara (Carl) Hoffman of Canyon City, CO; Rebecca (Bill) Matthews of Niceville, FL; and sister-in-law Betty Elder of Arvada, CO. He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers: Richard Elder of Westminster, CO. and Dallas Elder of Arvada, CO. His remains will be buried in the National Cemetery at Bourne, MA**.
Life Celebration 1 p.m. Wednesday at Adamson Life Celebration Home in Greeley with a reception to follow. Memorial gifts may be made in his name to the “Alzheimer’s Association” Greeley Chapter in care of Adamson, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634.

**Massachusetts National Cemetery is a U.S. National Cemetery located in Bourne, Massachusetts, in Barnstable County on Cape Cod, approximately 65 miles (105 km) southeast of Boston, Massachusetts and adjacent to the Otis Air National Guard Base. As of fiscal year 2008, 46,380 have been interred there. The Massachusetts National Cemetery was dedicated on October 11, 1980 and became the third new national cemetery to open in nearly 30 years. The site was officially named the Veterans Administration National Cemetery of Bourne, Mass., but over time the lengthy appellation changed in practice, if not in fact, to simply, "Massachusetts National Cemetery".
